22 July 2008 - EN The Lisbon Treaty and The Radar-Base Treaty: Interference of politics
The Czech Prime Minister, Mirek Topolanek (ODS), foresees a possible interference while ratification of two Treaties that have been recently discussed in the Czech Republic: the Treaty on Anti-missile Radar Base and the Lisbon Treaty. According to a statement he made last week, the possible refusal of the Treaty on American Radar Base could negatively effect the attitude of Czech ODS MPs towards the Lisbon Treaty. A mutual conditioning of Treaties and a joint-decision making process is a logical step. However the opposition party (CSSD) is against the plan set by the ODS, claiming that they avoiding having to deal with the issues of each treaty. 22 July 2008 - EN The Czech Society deeply confused about the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty

The Czech population is deeply confused about the Lisbon Treaty and its ratification by the Czech Parliament. Results of a poll carried out by STEM Research Agency in June 2008 indicated that 47% of the Czech population agrees with ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, whereas a majority of about 53% is against ratification. More importantly, only 23% of the population claim to have a profound knowledge of the treaty, the rest either does not understand properly or has absolutely no knowledge about the issue. The percentage of the "No" group has increased slightly after the Irish rejection of the Lisbon Treaty. 22 July 2008 - EN Irish No Campaigner has big plans for EU elections
Declan Ganley, President of Libertas has revealed his that he is planning to field more than 400 candidates in next June's European Parliament elections. All the MEPs shall stand on just one issue – ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. "We will tell people that Libertas is the box you put your X in if you want to vote 'No' to the Lisbon Treaty. 22 July 2008 - EN Sarkozy suggests Irish revote in June 2009
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has suggested that the Irish hold another referendum on the same day as the European parliamentary elections in June 2009. Sarkozy’s plan is to guarantee of a commissioner for every member state alongside non-legally-binding declarations - not protocols or opt-outs - targeting perceived Irish concerns around abortion and defence, among other issues. 18 July 2008 - EN Sarkozy visit on Lisbon vote plunges into chaos
Plans for Sarkozy's visit to France have plunged into chaos due to the poor level of organisation, in what the Irish are now calling the "French Farce". 11 July 2008 - EN Belgian Parliament approves Treaty
The Flemish parliament passed the Lisbon Treaty yesterday. It was the final of Belgium's eight Parliaments to approve the Treaty. Read more...


4 July 2008 - EN Cypriot parliament ratifies Treaty
The Cypriot Parliament ratified the Lisbon Treaty yesterday with 31 MPs in favour of the treaty and 17 against. Read more...


27 June 2008 - EN Austrian leader calls for referendum if EU treaty changed
The Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer has said that if the Lisbon Treaty were changed, due to the Irish rejection of it, the changed treaty should be put to a referendum in Austria. Read more...


25 June 2008 EN - Czech President says treaty cannot come into force
In an interview with El País Czech President Václav Klaus spoke out saying that the Lisbon Treaty is dead, and further ratification futile as one member state has rejected it. He states that the EU must not be based on ignoring its own rules and principles. Read more...

23 June 2008 EN Doubts emerging over Poland's Lisbon ratification

22 June 2008 - EN Ireland comes under pressure to hold new referendum
Ireland is expected to bow to pressure from France and Germany to hold a new referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Although no time limit has been placed upon the Irish, it is believed that a spring referendum would be preferred so that the treaty could come into force before the 2009 European Parliament elections.
