Only if citizens have the final say will they join in the debates on the future of Europe. To empower citizens - and to overcome their apathy and frustration - we need fair referendums on the EU Reform Treaty in as many EU member states as possible.
THE ERC AT A GLANCE
- The European Referendum Campaign (ERC) began in September 2007 and will run until the European Elections in 2009. Its single purpose is to get referendums on the so called EU Reform Treaty in as many EU member states as possible. Here you can read and support the ERC appeal.
- Supporters of the ERC vary from those who are in favour of adopting the EU Reform Treaty and those who are against it. However they are all united in the belief that you cannot build Europe without the consent of the people - therefore we need referendums.
- The ERC is an umbrella organisation hosted by Democracy International. The ERC is an independent, Europe-wide network of NGOs and individuals which supports local campaigns in the EU member states through its website, strategic advice, research, the organisation of events and by generating an international dimension to the whole campaign.
- Now is the time to act and to show the European elite that the peoples of Europe will no longer allow themselves to be sidelined. Through referendums coupled with real broad debate, European citizens can make up their own minds on their future in Europe. Please read our 5 reasons why we need the ERC.
